Bruce Chin Architects Ltd is focused on generating designed solutions that involves innovation. These are specific architectural solutions that solve client’s operational requirements. It usually involves creating innovative solutions that does not only satisfy clients expectations, but exceed them.

Architectural designed solutions is generated from a process to problem solving. It involves critical thinking, and begins with identifying the issues, then applying high level analysis to generate a range of options to find the optimal solution.

Finding creative solutions requires a change of thinking away from what can be done, but why can’t it be done. It is thinking outside the square box. The implications are different for varying clients.

The Commercial owner

Visual presence by creating an identity from the street frontage was achieved such as the new medical centre with a large feature circular glass window with a cross which lights up from inside. In addition, uplifting spaces in the patient waiting room, and efficient floor planning allowing staff to work more efficiently and effectively has made the medical centre a leading medical practice in the western Christchurch area.

The Developer

An innovative solution is exceeding what is permitted within the restrictive planning rules. Past projects included developing sections where clients were allowed to build more than what was zoned, in some cases 4x the amount thus adding a lot more value to the original section.

The Home owner

A central Otago home detail features to exceed the clients expectations such as macrocarpa rail lintels holding up the schists, cantilevered concrete slab for the entrance, electric gate openers for the barn doors. A ‘Feng Shui‘ house featured a bridge over a mendering pond, large entrance doors and curved stairs.

The Builder

We provide detailed construction drawings which are coordinated between sub trades. This goes beyond what is usually required for council building consent. It really benefits the builder, and this helps with the smoother construction and less delays.
